Jschool ‘punching above its weight’ as grads score jobs

Thanks to The Australian’s Media Diary writer Nick Leys for kind words about Jschool graduates:

Jschool grads score

It’s that time of the year when graduates find out if next year means their first job in journalism or a longer stretch waiting tables and flipping burgers.

Queensland’s Jschool is punching above its weight. Director John Henningham told Diary his graduates this year were already off the mark.

“For a small and independent journalism school we are pretty pleased with ourselves,” he said.

“Just a fortnight after our graduation ceremony, more than half of our 2011 Diploma of Journalism graduates have jobs as journalists.

“Three have just got through the gruelling selection process to be appointed graduate journalism trainees at News Queensland, where they’ll work on the Courier-Mail, Sunday Mail and Quest. Others have won jobs at APN (Gladstone and Fraser Coast), Rural Press/Fairfax (Dubbo Daily Liberal) and Quest suburban papers in Brisbane.”

Good luck to them all.
