Jschool congratulates top investigative journalist Hedley Thomas in winning the Gold Walkley at the Walkley Awards for journalism excellence.

Hedley, national chief correspondent with The Australian, is the only journalist to have won the Gold Walkley twice – he previously won it in 2007.

Hedley has been a great friend and supporter of Jschool over many years, and in recognition of his outstanding contribution to journalism we awarded him our honorary Doctor of Journalism degree in 2012.

In the 2018 Walkleys Hedley and producer Slade Gibson were honoured for their innovative podcast ‘The Teacher’s Pet’, which has attracted 27 million listeners for its unravelling of the mystery of the disappearance of Sydney mother Lyn Dawson.

Jschool also congratulates Jschool 2003 graduate Edmund Tadros for being a finalist in this year’s Walkleys in the Business Journalism category for investigation into sexual harassment at major accounting and consulting firms (‘Big 4 and #MeToo’). Although pipped at the post by his Australian Financial Review colleague Jonathan Shapiro, it was a great achievement for Edmund to be nominated, and Jschool takes pride in the recognition given him by Walkley judges.
